After four days of tryouts, everyone who tried out for basketball was placed on three different teams–Varsity, JV1, or JV2. This year, varsity has two class of 2029 stars, Annie Dean and Ana Dudkiewicz. On the tryout process, Ana said, “I was nervous but excited for the opportunity.”
On Tuesday, November 25, varsity, along with JV1 and JV2, had their first game. JV2 played a tight game against Brookfield East, but ended up losing 43-39. The JV1 team played Mukwanago and won by a large margin. The varsity team had a tight and competitive game against Mukwonago. After trading points all game, the Dashers pulled away in the last few minutes, winning 47-40. The Dashers were led by junior Sophia Place with seventeen points, seven rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.
In the month ahead, the varsity team is scheduled to compete in a varsity tournament with Kenosha Bradford, West Allis, and more. JV1 has a similar schedule, also looking for many more great victories. The JV2 has partially the same schedule, but will also play other teams such as Brookfield East.
Last year the varsity team went 9-17 and 7-9 in the Greater Metro Conference and tied for 5th place. Returning senior Maddie Brown was last year’s runner-up in average points per game, 12.0, and rebounds per game, 5.2. As well, junior Brailey Baxter led the team in assists per game last year with 2.6.
