The Beauty in Being Black
Let’s focus on the beauty of being black
A beauty from the past like Aretha, Rosa and Whitney
But i’d like to focus on the beauty that’s in front of me
There’s so much range and so much to talk about
I really dont even know where to start
From the different types of hairs to hairstyles that i have come to known
There’s 3a —,3b 3c, and lets not forget about 4a, 4b, 4c
The curls and coils are to die for
Hairstyles where there’s locs
And braids less of knots
Dont forget the afros or even twist
So many to choose from , how can we get tired of it?
And dont get me started on the diversity of the different skin tones
The prettiest skins ranging from albino, dark to medium to light to everything in between
There’s so many out there —— i hope this poem — helps for them to be seen
The beauty of being black — doesnt just stop at our looks
There’s so much more there’s but I’ll just let you all wonder BUT
For an example of the small things that we do toward each other
Like the look of the eyes when we notice something
Honestly I could make a whole list of things like its nothing
One using her voice right now an a healthy way
Twins who can sing beautifully i can see them being famous one day
Someone who uses her dance skills to praise the lord
A friend of mine who writes oh how she never gets bored
When I look at us i see dancers, teachers , actors , lawyers
I could go on and on and maybe even write a book.
Maybe I should.
I see the future , the present and also the past
My hope is for the meaning of this poem to last
But it’s time to end this poem
So instead of focusing on the struggles
Lets focus on the beauty that we sometimes think we lack
That’s is the true beauty of being black
