The DSHA Varsity Golf Team had a great season, winning the WIAA Division 1 State Championship for the second time in two years. For the state title match, they played 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday at the University Ridge Golf Course. At State, the winning team is determined by the lowest combined score of the top four players. On Monday, Zoe Gryniewicz (‘27) and Ava Roesch (‘26) led the team with scores of 77 and 78 respectively. They played through harsh conditions, with temperatures touching 40 degrees and winds over 20 mph. After the first day, the team led by six strokes. On Tuesday the Dashers secured their win, shooting a combined score of 317, three strokes below their score from the previous day.
Overall the DSHA Varsity Golf Team finished the 36 holes with a combined score of 637, becoming the Division 1 State Golf Champions for the second year in a row. They also finished an impressive 29 strokes ahead of second place Prescott High School, wildly improving compared to last year’s two stroke victory.
Throughout the year the team not only achieved athletically, but also grew closer to each other and in their faith. For instance, the night before they left for State, the Dashers attended Mass at St. Charles in Hartland. Every time the DSHA Varsity Golf Team played golf, the girls were reminded of their faith when they used special ball markers given to them by Hannah Strachota’s (‘25) parents. The ball markers each had the Guardian Angel Prayer inscribed on them, along with an image of a guardian angel. These were especially meaningful for the returning golfers from last year’s team because they had similar ball markers when they won DSHA’s first Golf State Championship.
Congratulations to the DSHA Varsity Golfers on your State Championship win and we can’t wait to see how you do next season!
