The start to the new and upcoming school year has brought many additions to DSHA: new rules, new teachers, and even new clubs! Three new clubs have been introduced this year: Investment Club, Science Olympiad, and Key Club.
Investment club is a club focused on learning about the economy and responsible investing. When interviewing the leaders, Aubrey Melvin and Elise VanHimbergan said that their club is going great, as they have introduced their club with an investment game that has allowed for participants to practice handling money and to learn more about finances. When asked about their future plans for the club, they said their goal is to educate members on the importance of investing. Furthermore, they have emphasized the need for more active participation in the club, and as the club members stated, “We don’t have anything like this at DSHA, but it is much needed as we head into college and even into finding jobs after college!”
Another new club is Science Olympiad, started by Physics teacher Mr. Himburg. He founded this club as a way to share his love for experiments and exploring new topics with the student body. There are currently twenty-nine members of the club, and the students will be working together to elect leaders and form the club to align with their interests. The Science Olympiad team is hoping to compete in their first event at the Marquette University High School Invitational!
The final club established this school year is Key Club, which focuses on encouraging Dashers to serve in the community consistently by collaborating with service sites that students will volunteer at on a weekly basis. The leaders of the club, Grace Wimmer, Maeve Steger, and Izzy Downs, hope to encourage Dashers to go out into their community to serve and find a service site that they can return to and build a relationship with. Furthermore, they hope that Key Club will help girls to fulfill their required service by offering consistent service opportunities, but more importantly to foster a love of serving and to build new relationships with people in their community.
